But the real showstoppers are the sunsets and sunrises. The sky transforms into a masterpiece of fiery oranges, pinks and deep purples — it’s the kind of beauty you’ll remember long after your tan fades.
Adrenaline-pumping adventures
I’m a sucker for a bit of excitement, and RAK didn’t disappoint. The Jais Sledder was so much fun! Zipping down the mountain at speed, with the incredible views rushing past, was a thrill. It’s like being a kid again, but with a much better backdrop.
And then there’s the Jebel Jais Zipline, the world’s longest zipline. Did I scream? Nope. I was too busy soaking up the jaw-dropping views and feeling like a superhero flying through the mountains. It’s absolutely epic and worth every second of nerves before you launch.
Oh, and let’s not forget CLAW BBQ. Yes, I tried the bucking bronco, and yes, I fell off — but not before a valiant attempt! It’s all part of the fun, and the food and atmosphere make this place a must-visit.
Cultural gems and shopping
RAK’s heritage shines through in places like the Pearl Farm, where I learned about the emirate’s rich pearling history. Watching the pearl cultivation process and hearing the stories was fascinating — it’s a side of the UAE that many don’t know about.
I also visited the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah, housed in a historic fort. The artefacts and exhibits tell the story of RAK’s past, and it’s a great way to escape the midday heat while learning something new.
As for shopping, RAK’s souks are renowned for their vibrant colours and unique offerings, from spices to textiles. I didn’t have time to explore them fully (too busy adventuring!), but I’ve heard they’re superb and perfect for picking up a few treasures to take home.
