One thing’s for certain... 2022 is the year of the holiday! To get you thinking of where your next adventure could be, I’ve shared some of the trendiest destinations that are well worth a visit...
Italy
Best for: Cities and beaches in one trip
Whether you’d like to explore the ancient city of Rome, the romantic canals of Venice or hop through the wineries of Tuscany, what’s great about Italy is it’s a destination with sun, sea and pretty amazing cities!
If you can’t quite decide, it’s never been easier to travel through Italy by train, so why not head to a city or two first before ending your trip with pure R&R on one of its gorgeous beach retreats?
We’re on-hand to give you tips and recommendations on our favourite spots, along with planning your route so that you don’t have to.
Best time to go: If you’re looking for sun, then between May and September are ideal. Combine that with a city, and we recommend avoiding the heat of the summer so you can explore in comfort!
Georgia & Armenia
Best for: Getting off the beaten track
If you’d like to look beyond the tourist trail, then Georgia and Armenia do just that. These short-haul destinations may be in Europe but are still relatively untapped when it comes to tourism – so we recommend getting there before everyone else does.
From the gorgeous mountain landscapes and ancient monasteries to the friendly locals and indulgent cuisine, these are two destinations that offer adventure and culture in one holiday!
Best time to go: April and May are the ultimate months for comfortable walking temperatures, as are September and October when wine regions and forests are at their best.
Canada
Best for: Epic scenery
Such a mighty country, it’s difficult to see all of Canada in one trip, but we can almost guarantee that a couple of weeks in the Canadian countryside will do the world of good for your mental wellbeing.
There are few better places to get outdoors than Canada. Highlights include Jasper National Park and journeying on the Rocky Mountaineer train and admiring the spectacular scenery.
This is an all-year round destination with magical, snowy winters and mild summers, perfect for exploring.
Best time to go: Offering something different for every season, we think that all seasons are great for exploring Canada! But if you’re looking for milder days, head there in July or August where highs are regularly around 22 degrees each day.
New Zealand
Best for: Nature and adventure
New Zealand’s third island is emerging as a fresh sort of bucket-list destination. Stewart Island, sitting 30 km off the country’s South Island, is a languorous sort of place where life is lived to the rhythm of the sea and the pull of the moon. With a population of just 390 (and around 20,000 fluffy kiwi birds), it rarely feels crowded, but the scope for adventure is colossal; from kayaking and fishing, to gnarly trail running and diving spectacular underwater kelp forests.
Best time to go: You might find that the best time to visit Stewart Island is during the off season from May through to October, when the summer crowds have died down but the weather is often calmer and quieter. While there is a chill in the air, it’s unlikely you’ll see snow.
Egypt
Best for: Ancient history
2022 is an important year for Egypt, as the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza is due to open in November. The largest archaeological museum in the world, its collection includes many objects found in Tutankhamun’s tomb – and 2022 marks the 100th year of its discovery! It’s a must-see on a visit to Egypt, so whether you’d like to cruise along the Nile or head to the beach resorts before or after, we can arrange for you to combine it with the major sights and the must-see museum.
Best time to go: For those looking to explore Egypt’s history, the best time to visit is between October and April when temperatures are cooler but still pleasantly warm. If you’re looking for a summer holiday by the beach, the summer months do get very hot, but you can grab a great deal!
