Before making our way to Poros, we spent some time exploring Athens, and I highly recommend doing the same.

Must-see sights and neighbourhoods
The Acropolis and Parthenon
No trip to Athens is complete without marvelling at these iconic ancient landmarks. Pair your visit with a stop at the Acropolis Museum for a deeper dive into the city’s past.
Plaka District
Known as the “Neighbourhood of the Gods” - Plaka’s narrow cobbled streets are lined with colourful shops, traditional tavernas and Instagram-worthy balconies.
Monastiraki Square
A lively area brimming with flea markets, street art and an eclectic mix of old and new. Perfect for people-watching or bargain hunting.
Syntagma Square
Home to the Greek Parliament, this square hosts the changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a fascinating peek into Greek tradition.

Little Kook – a fairy-tale escape in the heart of Athens
One of the quirkiest areas we stumbled upon was Little Kook, a whimsical café and dessert spot that feels straight out of a fairy tale. Situated in the Psyri district, Little Kook is known for its ever-changing themed décor – think fairy lights, giant props and fantastical displays. It’s not just a café; it’s an experience. Stroll by to take photos or pop in for a sweet treat, as you’ll feel transported to a storybook world. This place was so delightfully over-the-top that it reminded me of a Disney-like setting right in the middle of the city.
Getting to Poros
Poros is easily accessible from Athens. After touching down at Athens Airport, we headed to the port to catch a ferry to the island. The fast ferry takes just over an hour and is a scenic way to start your adventure. Watching the Aegean Sea glitter as you sail over is a sure sign you’ve arrived in holiday mode.

After soaking in Athens’ culture and treats, we hopped on the ferry and made our way to Poros.
