If you’re about to set sail on your very first cruise - how exciting! Cruising is an incredible way to travel, but if you’re new to it, you might have a few questions about what to expect. Don’t worry - I’ve got you covered with some top tips to help you make the most of your adventure.

1. Pack smart

Cruise life is all about variety - one minute you’re lounging by the pool, the next you’re off exploring a new destination, and then it’s time to dress up for a fabulous evening onboard. So, pack a mix of outfits:

  • Casual wear for relaxed days at sea

  • Comfortable clothes for excursions

  • A couple of dressy outfits for formal nights - some cruise lines have a dress code, so check before you go

  • Layers! Weather at sea can be unpredictable, and a jumper or light jacket will come in handy on breezy evenings

  • Comfy shoes - you’ll be doing plenty of walking, both onboard and in port

2. Explore the ship early

As soon as you board, take some time to get your bearings. Find the restaurants, pools, spa, entertainment venues, and (most importantly) the nearest bar! Getting familiar with the layout early on means you won’t waste time later trying to find everything. Plus, you might even discover some hidden gems onboard!

3. Book activities in advance

Want to try a specialty restaurant, enjoy a spa treatment or catch a must-see show? These can book up fast, so secure your spots early! Many cruise lines allow you to book online before you even set sail - definitely worth doing to avoid disappointment.

4. Arrive a day early

One of the best tips for stress-free cruising? Fly out the day before and stay in a pre-cruise hotel. This way, you won’t have to worry about travel delays making you miss your ship. Plus, it gives you a chance to explore your departure city and start your holiday feeling relaxed.

5. Consider a drinks package

If you like to enjoy a few drinks on holiday, a drinks package could be a game-changer. Many cruise lines offer packages that cover alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, specialty coffees and bottled water. The upfront cost might seem a lot, but if you’re planning on sipping cocktails by the pool, enjoying a morning latte or having a few wines with dinner, it could save you a small fortune!

Ready to set sail?

Cruising is such a fantastic way to travel, and with these tips, you’ll be all set for an amazing first cruise. So, get excited, pack your bags and get ready to experience life at sea!
